Later, you'll drive to the highlands to visit the Dorze Tribe, renowned for their towering bamboo houses and exceptional traditional cotton weaving techniques. You'll experience their unique culture, learn about their weaving, and taste traditional food made from the false banana plant. You'll then enjoy dinner and overnight in Arba Minch, perhaps at a comfortable stay like Paradise Lodge.
starts with an early breakfast before departing for a Benna Tribe village. Here, you'll observe their unique traditions, including stick walking, and witness their vibrant ritual dancing and singing. Benna men often adorn their hair with colorful clay cups decorated with feathers, while both men and women wear long garments and paint their bodies with white chalk. Afterward, you'll continue your journey to Turmi, the heartland of the Hamer Tribe. If you're lucky, and a Bull Jumping ceremony (Ukuli Bula) is taking place, your schedule will be adjusted to ensure you witness this incredible and unique coming-of-age ritual. Even without a ceremony, you'll explore a Hamer village and learn about their fascinating customs. Dinner and overnight stay will be in Turmi, at lodges like Kizo or Emerald.
After breakfast, you'll drive to Omorate village to visit the Dassanech Tribe. Located by the Omo River, this visit offers insight into their resilient lifestyle in a very hot environment, often requiring a local canoe crossing. In the afternoon, after lunch, you'll continue to the Kara Tribe, who live directly on the Omo River banks. Closely related to the Hamer, they have their own distinct culture and language, and are particularly famous for their elaborate body painting and scarification, using natural pigments to create stunning designs. You'll then return to Turmi for dinner and overnight.
sees you departing from Turmi towards the Arbore region, a roughly three-hour drive. The Arbore people (also known as Abemich) are characterized by their simple, minimalist clothing and distinctive body painting. You'll spend time in an Arbore village, interacting with the community and learning about their unique traditions near the Weito River. After your visit, you'll continue your journey to Jinka (approximately three hours drive), which serves as the primary hub for exploring the Mursi tribe and offers a good base with more amenities. Dinner and overnight will be in Jinka, perhaps at Jinka Resort.
Finally, Day 5 begins with an early morning departure to Mago National Park to visit the iconic Mursi Tribe. The Mursi are renowned for the large clay lip plates worn by women and the significant scarification on men, which symbolizes bravery and status. As pastoralists, their villages are often nestled deep within the park, offering an authentic glimpse into their traditional way of life. After spending time in their villages, you'll return to Jinka for lunch before being transferred to Jinka Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa, where your tour concludes.
